Xile Glasgow: more west coast than Snoop...
As most of you will know we opened our first Glasgow store earlier this year in the New St Enoch Walkway. The custom designed 2300 sq ft unit has been described as “the best independent fashion store in the world”! Fair enough it was Xile director (and store designer) Paul Mullen who said it but we’re sure you’ll agree it’s a pretty damn good shop...
The menswear only boutique carries the best labels from across Xile and has made a real impact on Glasgow’s tired retail scene. To celebrate the newest addition to the Xile family we hosted a particularly wild party with superstar DJ Marshal Jefferson. Check out the pics of the party & store below... Massive thanks to Hummel & Replay for their support.
The Edge Festival: live and loud this August
Avid music fans in need of a live hit have been lapping up Edinburgh’s Edge Festival! The re-incarnation of ‘T on the Fringe’ rolled out across the capital’s top venues and delivered some quality gigs this August.
The varied lineup featured something for everyone with headliners including Dizzee Rascal and The Coral… We checked out The Doves and they were absolutely class, always worth a watch! Plan B was also a great gig, the highlight of which was his beatboxing support.
If you missed out on the festival check out www.gigsinscotland.com for a guide to whats coming up…
Edinburgh Festival Recommended: free fringe tickets...
Ok, so I may not be the most cultured of folk but even I recognize the benefits of the Edinburgh festival: 5am licenses, a sudden influx of attractive young actresses and a great selection of avant garde ballet. That said the whole experience is a real pain in the a**e for those of us who work in the city centre. The 50 yard walk between bus stop and office is a horrific example of why drama school shouldn’t be allowed! Every day for a month I was approached by a ridiculous number of geeky thespians offering me tickets to their groundbreaking new show… you’re giving away tickets, it’s on at midday in a church hall and the casts average age is smaller than my collar size: NO THANKS!!
There were some tremendous gigs and shows kicking off in the capital though. Our favourite was Mike Keat’s show… “The Lyin’ Bitch and the Wardrobe”. Cuban Brothers frontman Mike Keat’s impressed with a madcap autobiographical show focusing on his love of zany fashion and dance.
Opinion in the Xile Office was divided on acclaimed comic Jim Jeffries ‘Alcholocaust’ show. While the drunker members of our party thought he was the mutts nuts a good few of us were less than convinced. Tickets were steep at £16 per ticket and a lot of the humour relied on liberal swearing rather than actual comic wit. If you saw Jim’s show let us know what you thought.
In Other News:
Xile’s much loved web manager Jon “Huggy” McDonald is kicking arse in his ‘other job’. Jon is one half of acclaimed DJ duo “Huggy & Dean Newton” who’ve been playing gigs all across Europe to promote their new material. After recent releases on CR2 and Morillo’s Subliminal label Huggy’s been booked solidly all summer. The boys reached no 12 in the Portugese charts with “Get Lifted” and are attracting a cult following on the continent. Our favourite Portugeezer has also been hotly tipped by Ibiza super-producer Eric Morillo to reach the big time. Eric has been giving Huggy’s track massive airtime and chose it as his seventh favourite track of the year. So much so that rap mogul P.Diddy has been rapping over “soul roots” in Pacha this week.
Check the video below for a taste of Jon’s unique house sound…
